Asking for the moon? $100 for a box of mooncakes: Customers pay for luxe hotel brand and packaging

SINGAPORE – With less than a month until the Mid-Autumn Festival on Sept 29, mooncake sales are in full swing at hotels, restaurants and fairs at Takashimaya Square and VivoCity. 

The prices of mooncakes – particularly those from big-name hotels and food establishments – have shot skyward in 2023, soaring to an average of $80 to $100 and beyond for four pieces.
