Terry Gou’s entry to Taiwan presidential race heats up contest, may force opposition candidates to strike deal

TAIPEI – Taiwanese billionaire and presidential hopeful Terry Gou has limited political experience, but he has friends in high places.

The 72-year-old founder of Apple supplier Foxconn – and once Taiwan’s richest man – is the only candidate to have been described as a “friend” by both Chinese President Xi Jinping and former United States president Donald Trump.
