Market volatility continues, even amid cautious optimism on cooling US labour market and inflation

SINGAPORE – Bad news for the economy is good news for equities, and this was the case as Wall Street stocks rallied last Friday on data showing that unemployment in the United States edged higher in August.

The closely watched Dow Jones Industrial Average and the broader S&P 500 ended the week on a positive note as the US Labour Department released numbers showing that non-farm payrolls increased by 187,000 jobs in August.
